Renovation Help Wanted Again

Fellow Engineers: I'm need advice for a renovation project to a 100 yr old balloon-framed house close to the ocean (read high wind loads). It has a 3 ft tall brick foundation wall on 1'x1' concrete footing. There are no anchor bolts and exterior walls have is 1x6 (approx) horizontal wood sheathing.   The renovation removes two load bearing wood walls - comprising a 90 deg corner - on the 1st floor, adding support beams with posts and underpinning the existing footings. Because of high wind uploads I need to cut out the brick corner to post down and tie into the concrete footings.   My question is: what troubles arise by destroying the brick wall interlacing and continuity? I'm considering steel angle straps and bolting thru the wall. Is this effective? And what else can you recommend?    Thanks , Irv
